Lakeside is genuinely unusual: the 2020 census counted just 16 residents, making it the least populous municipality in all of Colorado, packed into a 0.2-square-mile town where Lake Rhoda alone takes up about a fifth of the land. It was incorporated in 1907 by a Denver brewer's syndicate specifically to build the Lakeside Amusement Park, which is still operating today, and most of the town's remaining land is commercial, including the shopping center that replaced the old mall around 2010.
